Building Bridges: Connecting Students, Professors, and Professionals In today's competitive business world, networking has become more important than ever. It is not just about what you know, but who you know. That's why the BIPOC Business Society (B.B.S) at the University of Ottawa is dedicated to building bridges and connecting students, professors, and professionals. Networking is often overlooked on campus, but it plays a crucial role in finding job opportunities post-graduation. The B.B.S understands this challenge and aims to provide students with opportunities to make meaningful connections. Through networking events, workshops, and mentorship programs, the club helps students expand their professional network and gain valuable insights from industry experts. One of the unique aspects of the B.B.S is its focus on office visits. The club plans to position itself as the only one at the University of Ottawa that offers highly respected office visits in Ottawa. By partnering with offices across Ontario, the B.B.S aims to provide students with exclusive access to these workplaces. Not only will students get a glimpse into the day-to-day operations of prestigious firms, but they will also have the chance to network with professionals in their desired fields. But the B.B.S doesn't stop at local office visits. The club envisions organizing team trips to offices in different cities, and even internationally. This not only exposes students to different business environments but also allows them to see firsthand the success stories of B.B.S alumni who are working in prestigious firms. These trips serve as inspiration and motivation for current students, showing them what they can achieve with the right connections and determination. Recruitment is another area where the B.B.S aims to make a difference. The club aspires to be the first club where companies recruit directly from the University of Ottawa, surpassing the co-op program. To achieve this, the B.B.S plans a culminating Networking Night event, where industry leaders, speeches, and student-director/CEO pairings take center stage. This event provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their skills and make a lasting impression on potential employers. The highlight of the B.B.S calendar is the Networking Met Gala event. Scheduled for April 1st, 2024, this event combines networking with a touch of glamour. By incorporating Easter Monday, the B.B.S ensures increased employer attendance. The event will feature pastel purple as the main color, creating an elegant and memorable atmosphere. To add a unique twist, Easter eggs with advice from office visits will be integrated into the event, providing attendees with valuable insights and tips. To further enhance its media presence, the B.B.S plans to launch a podcast and YouTube channel. These platforms will feature a variety of content, including day-in-the-life features, event promotion, campus navigation, and collaboration with sponsors. By creating engaging and informative content, the B.B.S aims to reach a wider audience and establish itself as a reputable source of business knowledge and inspiration. The B.B.S understands the importance of a strong club image for respect and recognition. That's why the club has placed its media team under the marketing team's umbrella to ensure a cohesive and professional brand image. By maintaining a consistent and visually appealing presence across all platforms, the B.B.S aims to attract more students, professors, and professionals to join their network. In conclusion, the BIPOC Business Society (B.B.S) at the University of Ottawa is dedicated to building bridges and connecting students, professors, and professionals. Through networking events, office visits, team trips, recruitment events, and the Networking Met Gala, the B.B.S provides students with valuable opportunities to expand their professional network and gain insights from industry experts. With the launch of a podcast and YouTube channel, the B.B.S aims to reach a wider audience and establish itself as a reputable source of business knowledge and inspiration. Join the B.B.S and start building bridges to a successful future in business.
